A Plant Computational Biologist Postdoctoral research opportunity is available with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Agricultural Research Service (ARS) Corn Insects and Crop Genetics Research Unit in Ames, IA. The selected applicant's primary responsibilities will include:

• Participation in the development of databases for storing genetic and genomic data for a group of crop and model plant species.
• Participation in the development of a web-based query and visualization interfaces providing access to the data to a diverse and distributed community of researchers.
• Conducting evolutionary comparisons among genomes and transcriptomes from species in the legume plant family and from selected comparison species.

To be eligible, applicants must have received Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, plant biology, genetics, or related discipline involving significant computational experience, statistics, and genetics.

The ideal candidate will have:
• Research experience involving significant experience in a command-line environment and use of computational tools for studying molecular evolution
• Training in statistics and genetics
• Fluency in Unix computing environments (basic shell scripting)
• Programming or scripting experience (Perl/Python/Java)
• Relational database programming experience (SQL, DBI, object-relational mapping frameworks)
• Experience in web development (Drupal/Django/Rails)
• Familiarity with Chado schema and GMOD tools, open biological ontologies
• Experience with next generation sequence analysis
• Some familiarity with version control systems (Git preferred)
