We are looking for two full-time postdoctoral researchers in the Predictability of Weather and Climate group within the sub-Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Planetary Physics (AOPP). These posts are available as soon as possible until March 2017.

The positions are funded by the European Research Council (ERC) through an Advanced Investigator award to Professor Tim Palmer, to advance the science leading to the development of a prototype probabilistic Earth System Model. The work will build on developments initiated at the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). The successful applicants are expected to work closely with Professor Palmer to develop research strategies, and will take responsibility for the relevant model developments, in addition to working closely with scientists from ECMWF making use of the supercomputing facilities there.

Applicants should possess (or be close to obtaining) a doctorate in climate physics or nonlinear dynamics, or a related field, and ideally a strong numerical modeling background.

The postholders will have the opportunity to teach.
