英国环境研究委员会招聘古气候和古环境科学研究博士后
The British Geological Survey is one of the world's leading and forward thinking geological science institutes with a focus on both public good science for government and geoscientific research to understand earth and environmental processes. A three year fixed term appointment has arisen in the Environmental Change & Impacts Programme at our headquarters in Keyworth, Nottingham for a highly motivated and enthusiastic palaeoclimate and/or palaeoenvironment scientist with micropalaeontological expertise.
You will join a multi-disciplinary team that tackles the identification, characterization and analysis of the dynamics of the Earth-climate system (e.g. internal thresholds, triggers, early warning signals, response to and recovery from rapid changes), most particularly at times of rapid change in either climate or the environment. You will continue and further develop existing activities, as well as identify and establish new research areas. The geological time-period of the latter is open, but the resolution and length of records should be sufficiently high in order for the dynamics of the system to be properly tackled. You will be expected to publish the results in high impact journals, develop research collaboration(s) with national and international partners, and provide micropalaeontological support to a diverse National Capability programme.
You should have a PhD in a relevant area and experience in the application of micropalaeontology to understand climate and/or environmental change. Relevant post-doctoral experience would be an advantage, as would expertise in dynamical models. You should have excellent oral and written communication skills, with a proven peer-reviewed publication record. Demonstrable experience of identifying and developing new research areas is desirable. As the post involves collaborative research with other groups, you will be able to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams and will have good time management skills.
Depending on qualifications and experience, starting salary for the role will be £26,715 per annum to £30,000 per annum. This is advertised as a three-year fixed term appointment working 37 hours per week excluding lunch breaks. We will consider applications from those who require more flexible arrangements. A generous benefits package is also offered, including a company pension scheme, childcare voucher scheme, 30 days annual leave plus 10.5 days public and privilege holidays.
Applications are handled by the RCUK Shared Services Centre; to apply please visit our job board at http://www.topcareer.jobs/ and submit your up-to-date C.V. and covering letter, which clearly outlines why you are applying for this post and how you meet the criteria described in this advertisement.
