The Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment at the University of Western Sydney conducts fundamental and applied research in a range of areas that include plant and animal biology, pant-animal and plant-soil interactions, soil microbial ecology, genomics and bioinformatics, ecosystem function and climate change biology.

The Hawkesbury Institute for the Environment (HIE) is seeking to appoint an energetic academic to a Level A position in the HIE. This full-time, Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is available for 2 years with the possibility of an extension thereafter, pending funding availability. The successful applicant will focus on research related to a grant from the NSW Environmental Trust entitled “Psyllid-induced dieback of Grey Box (Eucalyptus moluccana) on the Cumberland Plain”. The grant addresses the important question of whether the extensive fragmentation and reduction of the Cumberland Plain Woodlands has resulted in a loss of genetic and chemical diversity of the dominating tree species, Eucalyptus moluccana. Discovering this genetic and chemical diversity is crucial to understanding their role in the chronic area-wide defoliation of Eucalyptus moluccana in the critically endangered Cumberland Plain Woodlands. The results will inform future conservation efforts and strategies.
