Metabolic and cardiovascular research has a long and successful tradition at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden. The Department of Molecular and Clinical Medicine, at the Institute of Medicine, focuses on cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity and combines clinical, experimental and epidemiological research. Research is conducted in close collaboration with the Sahlgrenska University Hospital that provides emergency and basic care for the region, and its 700,000 inhabitants, and highly specialized care for West Sweden, with 1.7 million inhabitants.
Position: A postdoctoral stipend is now open for a highly motivated applicant with a strong background in cell biology, biochemistry and molecular biology. Experience with endothelial cells and vascular biology is a merit. The project focuses on identifying novel molecules released by endothelial cells and their molecular mechanisms of action. It involves experimental cell culture studies, molecular cell biology, lipidomics and work in genetically modified mice.
Time of appointment: Two years stipend
Location: The applicant will be based in the laboratory of Professor Ulf Smith at the Lundberg Laboratory for Diabetes Research, Sahlgrenska University Hospital in Gothenburg, Sweden, and will be supervised jointly by Prof. Ulf Smith and Dr. Silvia Gogg.
Eligibility: To qualify, the applicant must hold a doctoral degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a doctorate, completed no more than two years before the date of the application. The applicant must be fluent in English (written and spoken), and able to work independently. The project requires an enthusiastic and creative person with a passion for science and scientific curiosity.
