Job Description
• Contribute to the general development of Quantum Monte Carlo methods• Apply your work to a wide variety of scientific issues
• Be part of a vigorous multi-disciplinary community of scientists
The Position:
We are currently seeking a motivated Postdoctoral Fellow to undertake fundamental research in the development of electronic-structure Quantum Monte Carlo methods within the Materials Science and Engineering division.
QMC methods show promise as practical approaches to calculating highly accurate properties of electronic systems ranging from molecules to solids and surfaces. This position is part of a larger project to develop efficient implementations of QMC methods, extend their current capabilities, and apply them to problems in quantum chemistry and materials science.
The Postdoctoral Fellow will develop and implement new features in Quantum Monte Carlo, including practical methods for routinely determining accurate equilibrium geometries and reaction barriers.
Specifically you will:
• Contribute to the general development of Quantum Monte Carlo methods, and their application to scientific problems.
• Produce high quality scientific and technical outputs including journal articles and conference presentations.
• Develop innovative concepts and ideas for further research.
• Participate in CSIRO’s postdoctoral training program.
Location: Parkville, Victoria
Salary: AUD$81k – 88k plus up to 15.4% superannuation
Ref no: VIC13/04088-B
Tenure: 3 year term
To be successful you will have:
• A PhD degree (or will shortly satisfy the requirements for a PhD degree) in computational chemistry/physics/materials science, and no more than 3 years relevant post-doctoral experience.
• Strong mathematical and analytical skills and a high level of proficiency in writing scientific computer programs (preferably in Fortran), and experience using high-performance supercomputing facilities.
• Ability to work with people from varying research backgrounds, and evidence of strong written and oral communications skills, including the ability to publish results of research in scientific journals.
• Experience with electronic-structure Quantum Monte Carlo methods and experience in developing software for quantum chemistry and/or condensed matter physics would be desirable.
