A Research Associate (Postdoctoral) position in biomolecular NMR/protein X-ray crystallography is available in the laboratories of Dr Ernesto Cota at the Department of Life Sciences, Imperial College London’s South Kensington Campus and Dr Julian Naglik at the Dental Institute, King’s College London. The successful candidate will join the activities of a group dedicated to study functional and structural aspects of fungal pathogenesis, with emphasis on the molecular mechanisms of epithelial activation by C. albicans. Specific for this Wellcome Trust-funded project is the use of structural information to determine the function a specific C. albicans hyphal protein. You will also interact with a multidisciplinary group dedicated to structural studies of Candida cell wall proteins and assist in managing the research activities in the group of Drs. Cota and Naglik. Furthermore, the Centre for Structural Biology at Imperial will provide strengths in complementary areas of structural molecular biology, which will align well with your pursuit of new applications in biological systems.

You must have a PhD in structural biology, biophysics, molecular biology, biochemistry or chemistry, or in a related discipline, or an equivalent level of professional qualifications and experience. Knowledge and experience in biomolecular X-ray crystallography, standard molecular biology techniques, use of crystallographic software packages, synchrotron X-ray data collection and analysis for structure determination are essential. Skills in protein purification and techniques to measure protein ligand interactions, such as ITC, DSF, thermophoresis and SEC-MALLS are desirable. A successful track record in academic publications or equivalent relevant expertise and advanced computer skills are also essential.

The appointment will be made, dependent on relevant qualifications, within the Grade 6 scale between £31,644 to £35,597 per annum, plus £2,323 per annum London Allowance.
