We are seeking to recruit two highly motivated and enthusiastic chemistry or polymer-based postdoctoral researchers to join an exciting multidisciplinary team. The positions are part of the ERC-funded advanced grant research project Arrays of 3D Bio-Responsive Materials. A key attribute will be the ability to work in a highly multi-disciplinary manner with research clinicians and biomedical scientists.

The aims of the project are:

The identification of materials with molecular triggers designed to respond to specific small molecule chemical stimulation leading to a new paradigm in tissue and cellular delivery.

The discovery of materials that control and manipulate cells with the identification of scaffold s that provide the necessary biochemical cues for directing cell fate, driving tissue regeneration and providing stem cell niche stabilization. 

The development of novel concepts for polymer-bio-molecule activation in which diseased or aberrant tissue triggers cargo release from the scaffold.

The application of the identified materials in a variety of biomedical applications ranging from 3D cell culture and bone repair to bacterial sensing/removal and biomarker mediated drug release.

Applicants should have a love of technology (e.g. 3D printing), be energised to work in a cross and multi-disciplinary manner with a host of biomedical collaborators, and have a PhD in chemistry, polymer chemistry or a chemistry related area with biological experience.

Training in other areas of the project will be provided for a suitably enthusiastic candidate.

Candidates must have demonstrated communication skills, an ability to work in a cross-disciplinary team, a desire to lead and teach, and be able to work independently.  Available from 1 April 2014.

Fixed term: 4 years

Salary Scale: £30,728 to £36,661
