Announcement of Xiamen University Postdoctoral Fellow Recrui
I. About XMU
Xiamen University (XMU), founded in 1921 by Mr. Tan Kah Kee, the esteemed patriotic overseas Chinese leader, holds the distinction of being the first institution established by overseas Chinese in modern Chinese educational history. Positioned strategically within a significant homeland for overseas Chinese and situated within a special economic zone along the Taiwan Strait coast, XMU boasts distinct academic strengths within the context of the Taiwan Strait, the Maritime Silk Road, and the vast oceanic resources. Recognized as a pivotal national university, XMU has been included in the “211 Project,” “985 Project,” and the “Double First Class” Initiative, launched by the Chinese government to support selected universities in achieving world-class status.
Since its inception, XMU has been dedicated to its goal of becoming a “world-class university,” persistently striving for excellence and maintaining the highest standards. It has nurtured a profound cultural heritage and created an environment conducive to excellence in both teaching and research. Rooted in the belief that “faculty quality is paramount,” XMU places significant emphasis on “providing fair and respectful treatment as well as generous remuneration for its faculty members,” adhering to the principle of “recruiting talent worldwide and assigning roles based on merit.” Numerous luminaries such as Lu Xun, Lu Jiaxi, Wang Ya’nan, and Chen Jingrun have either worked or studied at XMU. Over the span of a century, XMU has evolved into a comprehensive institution with a broad spectrum of disciplines, a robust faculty, prominent domestic recognition, and significant international impact. It serves as an exemplary institution for nurturing talent and advancing scientific research.
XMU stands among the pioneering institutions nationwide in establishing postdoctoral fellowship programs. The University prioritizes the development of specialized postdoctoral research teams, recognizing postdoctoral fellows as vital reserves for high-level talent and a critical source of future faculty members.
Currently, XMU hosts 36 postdoctoral fellowship programs, led by esteemed cooperative supervisors including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, chief scientists of pivotal national research and development projects, distinguished professors under the “Chang Jiang Scholars Program,” and recipients of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. Many postdoctoral fellows nurtured at XMU have risen to prominence, emerging as leaders and stalwarts of academic distinction in their respective fields. Moreover, several outstanding postdoctoral fellows have achieved notable distinctions, such as election as academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, appointment as distinguished professors of the “Chang Jiang Scholars Program,” designation as chief scientists of the “973 Program,” and receipt of grants from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars.
