Postdoctoral Researcher
Department of Otolarynglogy and Head and Neck Surgery, UCSF - San Francisco, CA
Applications are invited to fill two open NIH-funded post-doctoral research positions in the Coleman Memorial Laboratory at the Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at the University of California Medical School. Our laboratory is currently focused on using multichannel electrophysiology and computational modeling to explore the cortical representation of complex sounds, particularly those features of complex sounds that support speech processing in challenging listening environments. The positions are available immediately for a period of 2 years, with the prospect of continuation until April 2017.

Candidates are expected to have or be in the process of obtaining a PhD in neuroscience, biomedical engineering, animal physiology, or a related discipline. Candidates with backgrounds in sensory systems, hearing research, and/or signal processing are especially encouraged to apply. Successful applicants will train animals, perform behavioral and electrophysiological experiments, analyze psychophysical and neural data, and prepare papers and presentations based on the results. Experience with electrophysiological recording and/or animal training is desired. Strong programming skills (MATLab) will be required to succeed in these projects, but are not required for candidates with strong computational backgrounds who are highly motivated to learn those skills.

The Coleman Memorial Laboratory is a multi-investigator research group aimed at developing an integrative, multi-level understanding of hearing function with an emphasis on basic principles of cortical organization and plasticity. The Coleman Memorial laboratory is located in the new, state-of-the-art Sandler Neurosciences Center on the UCSF Mission Bay campus, within the Center for Integrative Neuroscience. Candidates will have access to colleagues with broad and deep expertise in both systems and behavioral neuroscience within CIN. The Mission Bay campus itself has become a major hub for both science and biotechnology within the San Francisco Bay area.

Applications will be reviewed until the positions are filled. Those interested in making informal inquiries or wishing to arrange a meeting at SFN2013 or ARO2014 are encouraged to email Dr. Brian Malone.
