Postdoctoral Associate
University of Central Florida - Orlando, FL
The NanoScience Technology Center is seeking a motivated individual interested in developing new functional in vitro systems for use in drug discovery and toxicity, especially someone interested in translating the basic systems into validated assays. This post-doctoral research opportunity focuses on combining microfabrication and cell culture to construct in vitro models of the human body or “Body-on-a-Chip” for use in drug development. Multiple organs and their physiological interactions are represented on a single device; these interactions are based on physiologically-based pharmacokinetic models. Of particular interest will be to combine metabolically active tissue, such as from the liver, with electrically active tissues, such as cardiac myocytes or neuronal cells, and then conduct pharmacological studies in this system.

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic center at the cutting edge of nanoscience technology, working with the head of the Hybrid Systems Lab (see http://www.nanoscience.ucf.edu/faculty_hickman.php).

Position Minimum Qualifications
A Ph.D. from an accredited institution in biomedical engineering/material science or related fields.
