Doctoral student position with a doctoral grant in Aging Genetics
Karolinska Institutet, Eriksson (MER)
Division
A doctoral student position is now open in the research group of Associate professor Maria Eriksson to identify novel genetic mechanisms in aging. Although genetic variation between individuals has been studied extensively, very few studies have investigated genetic variation within an individual. To increase our knowledge of intra-individual genetic variation and genetic variation acquired during aging, we use deep next-generation sequencing in combination with high-resolution genomic arrays.
Duties
The student will be responsible for his / her own project and should be able to work well within a team of research group members and collaborators. The research work includes Next generation applications for genome-wide and targeted analysis of somatic genetic variation, bioinformatics analysis and standard molecular biological techniques.
Entry requirements
A successful applicant is expected to be a talented and highly motivated person, with good communication skills The applicant should have an undergraduate/master degree in Biomedicine, Molecular Biology, Molecular Genetics, Medical genetics, or similar. Good knowledge in spoken and written English is crucial, for details see http://ki.se/ki/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=29411&I=en
The student should be eligible to be accepted as a PhD student and able to fulfill the criteria for research education at the Karolinska Institutet.
To meet the general entry requirements for third-cycle studies, an applicant must have:
1. taken a second-cycle qualification
2. completed course requirements for at least 240 higher education credits, including at least 60 secondcycle higher education credits, or
3. otherwise acquired essentially the same knowledge in or outside Sweden.
An applicant who met the general entry requirements for third-cycle studies before 1 July 2007 is regarded as having met the current requirements, though no longer than until the end of June 2015.
Furthermore, English proficiency is required, for details see http://www.ki.se/doctoral/admission
A selection will be made among qualified applicants on the basis of the ability to benefit from third-cycle studies. Karolinska Institutet uses the following bases of assessment:
- Documented subject knowledge of relevance to the area of research
- Analytical skill
- Other documented knowledge or experience that may be relevant to third-cycle studies in the subject
The qualifications of the applicants will be evaluated on an overall basis.
A decision concerning the doctoral student position will be made after admission to third-cycle studies. For additional information about third-cycle studies at Karolinska Institutet, see http://www.ki.se/doctoral
Application process
An application must contain the following documents in Swedish or English:
1. Letter of interest (not more than one page).
2. A complete curriculum vitae, including undergraduate education, title of final thesis/degree project, academic title, current position, academic distinctions, committee work, and contact information to three references.
3. A copy of a degree certificate and associated certificates
4. A copy of a degree project and any previous publications
