Applications are invited for this full-time Diabetes UK sponsored 24 months fixed-term postdoctoral research position. This project investigates the role of CD1d-dependent invariant Natural Killer T cells (iNKT) in the early stages of human type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1D). The results of these studies aim to enable innovative future immunotherapies for patients with autoimmune diabetes. You will use established conventional assays and novel immunological techniques which have been developed in our laboratory. The successful candidate will be trained and supervised by experienced members of staff, but will be expected to drive the project forward independently.

We are looking for a researcher with a strong work ethic, good general laboratory skills and problem solving skills, and well developed communication skills, including clear and structured presentation of data and writing of scientific reports for publication. Expertise in immunological techniques, e.g. generation of cell lines and clones by FACS sorting, and scientific enthusiasm for immunology are further key criteria.

For further information, please contact Dr Salah Mansour at: s.mansour@soton.ac.uk, Tel: 023 8120 4931.

The start date for this position will be determined after completion of interviews, but will not be earlier than April and not later than September 2014.
