The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) is one of the world’s most influential cancer research institutes. Our mission is to make the discoveries that defeat cancer. We have a long and distinguished history of research with a major impact on the outcome for cancer patients. Our unique partnership with The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust (RMH) makes us the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, performing high quality original basic research and translational studies. Under the leadership of Chief Executive Professor Alan Ashworth FRS, we are committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best minds in the world. The ICR was ranked as the UK’s top academic research centre in the 2008 Higher Education Funding Council Research Assessment Exercise. Based on our publication record, citations and impact we rank among the world’s leading cancer research centres.

The Cancer Research UK Cancer Therapeutics Unit, within the Division of Cancer Therapeutics, is a multidisciplinary 'bench to bedside' centre, dedicated to the discovery and development of novel therapeutics for the treatment of cancer. Our exciting goal is to discover high quality drug candidates for validated biological targets and to progress these candidate compounds to clinical trial. Our chemists work alongside world-class biologists and drug metabolism specialists focusing on new molecular targets emerging from human genome and ground breaking cell biology research.

A postdoctoral position in computational chemistry/molecular modelling is now available in our In Silico Medicinal Chemistry group. The successful candidate will be located in well-equipped laboratories in Sutton, South London and will be expected to learn and apply in silico medicinal chemistry techniques that impact across the Unit’s portfolio of drug discovery projects.

Applicants must have a PhD in molecular modelling, computational chemistry, chemoinformatics or chemometrics techniques applicable to ligand-based and structure-based drug design. Experience in programming and structure-based drug design will be an advantage. The successful applicant will have ample opportunity to develop additional skills in post. Starting salary will be in the range of £32,492 to £36,170 p.a. inclusive (based on previous experience). Appointment will be for 2 years in the first instance.
