The Research Committee of the University of Patras invites applications for post-doctoral researchers to work on the research project “Paradigm for resilience of concrete structures to extreme natural and man-made threats”. The project is implemented under the Action “Funding of proposals that received final panel score A at the 5th Call of the ERC Grant Schemes” of the Operational Programme “Education and Lifelong Learning” and is co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) and national resources. The Principal Investigator (PI) is Prof. Michael N. Fardis, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Patras. The researcher will undertake the following tasks:

• Event-tree analysis for the probabilistic assessment of structures under extreme actions and events. Numerical simulation of the behavior and nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete members and structures under seismic and other dynamic actions. Concrete members under earthquake loading: residual displacements, damage, stiffness, strength, deformation capacity. Structures with seismic isolation for blast. Pilot applications (Work packages 1, 2, 3, 7, 11)

The duration of the contract will be up to 18.5 months, according to the project needs and time-schedule. The project end date is 30 September 2015.

Expression of interest can be submitted by applicants meeting the following criteria:
1. Scientific training: Candidates must have a Diploma in Civil Engineering, an MSc in the field of seismic-resistant structures and a Ph.D. in the field of seismic behaviour of reinforced concrete structures.
2. Research experience: Candidates must have research experience in projects on modelling and nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete members and structures under seismic actions.
3. Other requirements and criteria: Candidates must have very good knowledge of the English language and terminology.

RATING OF CRITERIA
1a – Diploma in Civil Engineering. Excluded if not available
1b – MSc in the field of seismic-resistant structures. Excluded if not available
1c – Relevance of PhD Diploma to the field of seismic behaviour of reinforced concrete structures. High: 100; Average: 50; None: Excluded
2 – Research experience in modelling and nonlinear analysis of reinforced concrete structures under seismic actions. Significant: 100; Average: 50; None: Excluded
3 – Knowledge of English language and terminology (certificates, interview). Excellent: 50; Average: 20; None: 0
4 – Interview: 0 – 100
Total: 0 – 350

Post-doctoral researchers will be selected by the PI on the basis of the skills required to conduct the research and without restrictions regarding nationality. They must hold a PhD degree.

Interested researchers are requested to submit by registered mail or courier their application and supporting documents in a sealed envelope to Prof. Michael N. Fardis, Department of Civil Engineering, University of Patras, PO BOX 1424, 26504 Patras, Greece, fardis@upatras.gr. The application and supporting documents must be delivered before 12/03/2014.

The following supporting documents are required:
1. Letter of expression of interest (signed)
2. Detailed curriculum vitae
3. Certified copies of diplomas or certification attesting to the completion of all degree requirements by the competent authority.
4. Copies of scientific publications and of the abstract and table of contents of the Ph.D. thesis.
5. Evidence of research experience in projects, undertaking similar tasks to those specified herein.
