Description of the whole project.
A postdoctoral position for one year in the first instance is available for collaborative work between the Institute of Protein Biochemistry and Institute for Microelectronics and Microsystems at National Research Council in Naples. The objective of the project (FIRB- Futuro in Ricerca) is to develop advanced optical techniques, based on Raman Spectroscopy (RS), Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy (SERS) and their integration with other optical methods (eg flow cytometry, optical trapping), in order to provide fast and reliable procedures for early diagnosis of specific cancers. Schematically, the project concerns two main approaches: 1. on cellular scale, it aims to distinguish cancer and noncancer, with the ultimate purpose of generating novel laboratory devices (compact Raman flow cytometer ); 2. on molecular scale, the project aims to detect low concentration of specific molecules, used as reliable molecular biomarkers for cancer diagnosis and prognosis.
Job description:
The fellow will be responsible for:
• Operation and development of the Raman/SERS system;
• Data analysis and methodologies;
• Development and optical characterization of plasmonic devices.
• Design, development and characterizations of microfluidic devices.
The project in particular will require the candidates to have the following
qualifications, skills and experience:
• Very good knowledge in physics/optics but keen to perform biological
cell culture;
• Experience with Raman spectroscopy and Surface Enhanced Raman
Spectroscopy (SERS);
• Experience in statistical analysis.
