The Section of Otolaryngology- Head & Neck Surgery (OHNS) performs complete diagnostic evaluations to determine the cause and extent of all ENT problems. In addition to common screenings (such as hearing tests), we provide many diagnostic tests that are available only at leading ENT programs. The Section was once again recognized for our exceptional ENT program by U.S. News & World Report.
The Department of Surgery at the University of Chicago is seeking a research specialist for the newly-formed Operative Performance Research Institute (OPRI). OPRI is a multidisciplinary group that utilizes advanced technology to study and enhance the operating room. We collaborate with scientists and professors around campus and across Chicago including experts in data visualization, sensor technology, computation, business, and social science. This position will be a tremendous opportunity for professional growth and promises exciting and challenging work developing new methods for research in the operating rooms of a major medical center.
Principal contribution is the application of principles and knowledge relevant to the administration and support of OPRI academic work and research. Under limited direction, conducts research, drafts abstracts and assists with grant application preparation. Helps develop, design and conduct research projects according to plan, including planning new procedures, adapting existing procedures to the needs of the project, and making contributions to methodology. Collects, records and analyzes data. Conducts literature reviews. Participates in writing reports and manuscripts. Oversees the management of equipment and supplies. Ensures compliance with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates. Trains and oversees the work of research support personnel. Responsibilities may include the following non-laboratory duties: transcribing and coding data; developing data collection instruments; presenting research findings at staff meetings, seminars, and scientific conferences; assisting with building databases; and recruiting and scheduling research subjects.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a field relevant to the research being conducted required.
Advanced degree in a field relevant to the research being conducted preferred.
A minimum of one year of relevant research experience required.
Ability to train others required.
Knowledge in relevant scientific field required.
Knowledge of research techniques or methods required.
Knowledge of regulatory policies and procedures required.
Analytical skills required.
Problem-solving skills required.
Attention to detail required.
Organizational skills required.
Verbal and written communication skills required.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team required.
