Research Associate (x2) in Nanostructured Thin Film Solar Cells

The appointment will be full time on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £32,699 to £39,523 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

Applications are invited for two Research Associates to work with Professor Kwang-Leong Choy in the Centre for Materials Discovery at University College London. The successful candidates will be involved in developing cost-effective nanostructured thin film solar cells with high conversion efficiency, reliability and reproducibility characteristics. The relationships between structural, compositional, optical and electrical characterization of thin films and solar cells will be established.

This project provides an excellent opportunity to collaborate with academia and a major industrial company. The project involves strong academic and industrial collaboration. In addition to the duties outlined above, the postholders will be required to present results and reports at progress meetings, prepare papers for publication and contribute to project supervision.

The appointments are funded by the EU for one year in the first instance and are available to start immediately.

The successful candidates must have (or be about to obtain) a PhD in Materials Science/Engineering, Materials Chemistry, or equivalent in a relevant area, together with the relevant research skills, knowledge and published papers on non vacuum chemical vapour deposition of thin films, especially for chalcogenide and kesterite based solar cells, processing of nanomaterials, materials characterisation, solar cells and clean energy. Experience in chalcogenide and kesterite based solar cells is desirable.

Please note, appointment at Grade 7 is dependent upon having been awarded a PhD; if this is not the case, initial appointment will be at Research Assistant Grade 6 (salary £28,621 – £30,180 per annum including London Allowance of £2,862 p.a.) with payment at Grade 7 being backdated to the date of final submission of the PhD thesis.
