The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) is one of the world’s most influential cancer research institutes. Our mission is to make the discoveries that defeat cancer. We have a long and distinguished history of research with a major impact on the outcome for cancer patients. Our unique partnership with The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust (RMH) makes us the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe, performing high quality original basic research and translational studies. Under the leadership of Chief Executive Professor Alan Ashworth FRS, we are committed to attracting, developing and retaining the best minds in the world. The ICR was ranked as the UK’s top academic research centre in the 2008 Higher Education Funding Council Research Assessment Exercise. Based on our publication record, citations and impact we rank among the world’s leading cancer research centres.
We are seeking a highly motivated biologist to work in the Myeloma Targeted Treatment Team based in well equipped laboratories at the Surrey campus. Our studies aim to identify and characterise new molecular targets for cancer therapy, using myeloma, a plasma cell malignancy within the bone marrow as a model. By using a number of in vitro model systems looking at both the tumour cell and the bone marrow microenvironment, we aim to identify compounds that show clinical promise and gain vital knowledge regarding their mechanism of action.
The aim of this Cancer Research UK funded project is to investigate the biological impact of modulating the unfolded protein response as a novel therapeutic approach for cancer, and to further characterise the intracellular signaling pathways involved. The post offers the opportunity to work within a multi-disciplinary environment using state-of-the-art techniques and equipment in this exciting and fast moving area of cancer research. Applicants should have a PhD in Molecular Biology or cell Biology together with good laboratory, analytical and communication skills.
Appointment will be made on a fixed term contract for up to 3 years with a starting salary in the range of £28,425 – £34,944 per annum inclusive, based on previous experience.
Informal enquiries are welcome and can be made to Dr Faith Davies (faith.davies@icr.ac.uk). Please note – this address is for enquiries only and you should not send your application to this email address.
