Postdoctoral Natural Scientist / Physician (Postdoc)(initially limited until March 31st, 2016)

The postdoc position is placed in the Institute for Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine in Prof. Thomas Renné’s research environment in a modern laboratory at the University Hospital Hamburg Eppendorf. The laboratory is funded in part by a European Research Council (ERC) and German Research Soiety (DFG) grants. The group has established transgene mouse models to study the nexus of coagulation and inflammation. We have access to clinical material and advanced experimental imaging facilities. The position is funded by the SFB841 and is initially open for a 2 years periode with the possibility for an additional 2-3 year-prolongation and would be most suitable for an experienced scientist seeking a first or second postdoctoral position. Collaborative research with the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm.

Area of responsibilities / description of the work:

The application is open for a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in experimental vascular biomedicine and proven expertise in thrombosis and inflammation models using cell culture and mouse models. The research project is focused on in vivo studies to analyze in vivo functions of a plasma protease, blood coagulation factor XII that initates proinflammatory and procoagulant reactions with implications for host-defence mechanisms in the liver. The applicant needs to have strong competence in running projects independently but also have good abilities for team work and cooperation within a dynamic group of international scientists with broad expertise.

Qualifications:

A doctoral degree within the area of biomedical research or a corresponding foreign degree is required. Applications of candidates with strong experimental experience including small animal models of experimental thrombosis, thromboembolic diseases and/or inflammation / bacterial infection are highly appreciated. Documented skills in cell and molecular biology and protein biochemistry are also required. Proven ability to write scientific articles and a track record of publications in international refereed journals is required. The applicant will be evaluated based on education and previous experience, relevance for the project, publications and track records, motivation and cooperative ability. The personal suitability is also an important criterion.
