Job Description

The Pediatric Nephrology Clinical Research program includes clinical trials, longitudinal cohorts health services and translational research. Patients are recruited from pediatric and internal medicine practices at UMHS, on-line through study websites and through multisite collaborating institutions. The Clinical Research Subjects Coordinator is a member of the clinical research program and will work closely with Nephrology Faculty and Research Team to coordinate patient subjects for clinical research studies conducted within Nephrology.Coordinate clinical research studies including patient enrollment and follow-up according to defined research protocols. Routing duties include: Coordinate patient recruitment and retention for assigned clinical research studies. Prepare Institutional Review Board applications, consent and assent forms for research projects. Data collection and data entry with data sources to include subject interview, survey administration, medical chart review according to study protocols. Collect, process, label and store biospecimens including blood, saliva, and kidney biopsy samples in accordance with study protocols. Assist with development and review of new studies, data collection forms or job aids in collaboration with the supervising project manager and investigators. Design or utilize databases for the study data. Maintain recruitment database; responsible for data entry and management. Generate reports for data analysis. Assist in preparation of posters and slide material for data presentation. Communication with patients, families, and researchers within the University and with extramural research teams in written and verbal venues is required. Working effectively within a team. Travel up to 5% of the time may be required to conduct study visits and participate in multisite study meetings and conferences. Other related duties, as assigned.The qualified candidate will possess: Bachelor's Degree in biological, social, or medical sciences, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 5 years of clinical research experience including direct patient contact. SoCRA or ACRP certification must be achieved within the first 6 months of employment. Knowledge of human sample collection and storage methodology and processes. Thorough knowledge of personal computers and Microsoft applications. Ability to prioritize, pay close attention to detail, follow-through with tasks, and work as part of a team with medical professionals. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to observe and maintain data confidentiality. Knowledge of medical terminology. Excellent attendance. Knowledge or willingness to learn website maintenance.Administrative supervision is received from the Clinical Research Study Manager of Pediatric Nephrology, with functional supervision from the project specific Principal Investigators. Staff members in this classification are expected to work independently and regularly exercise judgment in setting priorities and completing work-related tasks. The clinical research program within Pediatric Nephrology is focused on the advancement of biomedical knowledge of the causes and treatment of kidney disease in children and adults.The University of Michigan is an equal opportunity/affirmative action employer.
