英国卡迪夫大学招聘波谱能量分部和星际建模方向博士后
Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research associate position in the Cardiff University Galaxies and Cosmology Group, to work with Prof. Jon Davies on modelling the spectral energy distributions of nearby galaxies. The work is focussed on galaxy samples selected from the Herschel and Planck databases, but will extend to observations across the electromagnetic spectrum. The work will involve the interrogation of large databases and the subsequent extraction of data and the manipulation of large photometry data sets.
This position is funded by the European Union, through the FP7 Space collaborative project ”DustPedia”, and will afford the appointee unique opportunities to work with astronomers and computer scientists not only in Cardiff but also in Athens, Ghent, Florence and Paris. The overall aim of the collaboration is to produce state-of-the-art radiative transfer and physical dust models and then use these to explore their effect on our interpretation of the properties of galaxies including their formation and evolution.
The Astronomy and Astronomy Instrumentation Groups in Cardiff currently comprise 16 faculty, 20 postdocs and 25 Ph.D. students. The main research fields are star-formation theory and observation, extragalactic astronomy, gravitational waves, CMB theory and observation, and instrumentation.
The position is full time available for a period of 36 months, and the appointment will be as a Research Associate, at Grade 6. The start date is negotiable, but preferably the successful applicant should be in post by November 2014.
