Postdoctoral position in time-resolved spectroscopy on energy materials : Göteborg, Sweden
Information about the research and the division
The postdoc will be part of the Division of Condensed Matter Physics at the Department of Applied Physics of Chalmers. Our research, at the interface between physics and materials science, focuses on structure-dynamics relationships in energy relevant oxides, with the aim to develop an understanding of the coupling between the materials' functional properties to their atomic-scale structure and dynamics. The primary tools to this end involve the use of light scattering and absorption techniques, and neutron scattering techniques, available in-house and/or at large-scale free electron lasers, synchrotrons, and neutron sources, often combined with theoretical modeling in collaboration with research colleagues.
Major responsibilities
Your major responsibility as postdoc is to perform your own research in a research group. The position also includes teaching on undergraduate and master's levels as well as supervising master's and/or PhD students to a certain extent. Another important aspect involves collaboration within academia and with society at large. The position is meritorious for future research duties within academia as well as industry/the public sector.
Position summary
For the present position, we are seeking a person who will use and develop our time resolved optical spectroscopy laboratory for the investigation of the nature of fundamental excitations in proton conducting oxides of relevance for the development of next-generation solid oxide fuel cell technology. Special focus is laid on the nature of vibrational dynamics, by means of pump-probe optical spectroscopy, available in our group at Chalmers, complemented by techniques available at infrared and x-ray free electron lasers around the world. The work will be conducted in collaboration with other research groups at Chalmers, as well as with colleagues at other universities in Sweden and in other countries.
Part of the responsibilities is also to take part in the supervision of PhD and Master thesis students. The employment is limited to a maximum of 2 years and it will support science programs funded by the Swedish Research Council.
Full-time temporary employment.
Qualifications
The successful candidate must have a PhD in Physics or Materials Science, and a proven publication record with publications in major international journals. The candidate must also have a strong background in research using optical spectroscopic techniques, or techniques available at infrared or x-ray free electron laser facilities or synchrotrons. Experience in pump-probe methods is considered to be a strong merit. The candidate should also have strong collaboration and communication (oral and written) skills, as well as be able to drive projects independently.
To qualify for the position of postdoc, you must have a doctoral degree in a relevant field; the degree should generally not be older than three years. You are expected to be somewhat accustomed to teaching, and to demonstrate good potential within research and education.
