Research Analyst (Cell Phenotyping) (Maternity Cover)
University of Cambridge
Applications are invited from enthusiastic individuals for the post of Research Analyst (Cell Phenotyping) to support the development and provision of campus-wide Cell Phenotyping Services in the Cambridge Biomedical Research Centre. The post holder will provide specialist high level phenotyping and sorting services across the themes of the Biomedical Research Centre supporting collaborative projects with a primary focus on immunology.
Candidates must have expertise in cell biology, advanced flow cytometry and cell separation and general molecular/cell biology skills. Relevant post-graduate experience and qualification (preferably, a PhD) as well as experience in the provision of core services are required.
As the major component of the job is provision of cell separation and phenotyping services to researchers, hands-on experience as the major operator of high-speed cell sorters and high- end flow analysers is an essential requirement for the appointment at the advertised grade. Practical experience in immunological techniques (e.g. cell processing, preparation and staining) as well as background in immunology is an advantage but not a requirement. A training programme in immunological techniques may be offered to a suitably experienced and qualified candidate who is likely to be appointed at a lower grade until full performance of duties achieved.
The post-holder will report to the Director of the BRC Phenotyping Hub and they will be working as part of a large, multidisciplinary team, and be a part of a strategically coordinated service. A flexible approach to work, good social, communication and team-working skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines are crucial. The translational and clinical nature of the research undertaken requires working unsocial hours on occasions defined by the project nature (e.g. immediate processing of cells after late arrival of samples).
The post-holder will have extensive opportunities to interact with principal investigators, postdocs and students working on projects in the Biomedical Research Centre. Informal enquiries are encouraged and should be directed to the Director of Operations .
Maternity cover: This post is fixed-term for 12 months or the return of the post holder, whichever is the earlier.
Once an offer of employment has been accepted, the successful candidate will be required to undergo a health assessment. This appointment also requires a Research Passport application.
