The Department of Philosophy and Ethics at Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands invites applications for a full-time tenure-track position.

Candidates will have earned a PhD in philosophy and must demonstrate excellence in both teaching and research. Area of competence should include ethics, applied ethics and/or social and political philosophy.

The Department has a strong tradition in fundamental research in ethics and philosophy of science, as well as in applied philosophy in an interdisciplinary setting. It operates in the dynamic environment of an international research university, where it teaches a wide variety of courses to engineering students. Tasks

• Teaching courses to engineering students at BSc and MSc levels as responsible teacher (formally, up to 50% of employment time);
• Doing research in areas relevant to the Department of Philosophy and Ethics;
• Applying for externally funded research projects;
• Supervising BSc, MSc and/or PhD students;
• Participating in teaching at the PhD level;
• Contributing to the management of the Philosophy and Ethics Group.

Requirements
The candidate is expected to have the following qualifications:

• A PhD degree in philosophy;
• Excellence in teaching as shown by course evaluations;
• Ability to teach philosophy and ethics to engineering students;
• Excellence in research as shown by first-rate publications in international journals or books;
• Ability to apply for externally funded research projects;
• Ability to supervise PhD students and postdocs;
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment and to build bridges between philosophy, the social sciences, and the natural and engineering sciences;
• Excellent communication, organization and management skills;
• Strong cooperation skills and ability to work in a team;
• Mastery of the English language (the ability to teach in Dutch will be considered a strength).
