The faculty mentor for this position will be Dr.RAJA SHEKHAR GANGARAJU. A postdoctoral research fellow position is immediately available in the College of Medicine-Department of Ophthalmology, Hamilton Eye Institute, at The University of Tennessee Health Science Center focusing on the role of adult stem cells in Diabetic eye diseases. Hamilton Eye Institute ranked eight in the nation for clinical care, is the only university eye center providing an advanced level of vision care within a 200-mile radius of Memphis is committed to being a leader in translational research in understanding mechanisms of vascular wellness and disease, and the acceleration of the development of leading-edge medical therapies to improve the care of patients with vascular problems. We are seeking a self-motivated individual to join our multi-disciplinary research group investigating the role of adipose stromal cells in diabetic retinopathy. The work will include isolation and study of rat/human adipose stromal cells and genetic manipulation of such. Also, an array of diabetic and transgenic organisms will be analyzed by ex vivo and in vivo imaging of the vasculature.

Qualifications: Candidates should hold a Ph.D. and/or M.D. with research training in the fields of physiology, stem cell biology, and/or cellular and molecular biology. Experience with the techniques of cell culture, microscopy, and animal experiments are highly preferred. Qualified candidates should possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently. Candidate must also be proficient in oral and written English.

Salary will be commensurate with relevant experience and based on the prevailing wage for postdoctoral research trainees set by the U.S. Department of Labor.
