Postdoctoral Researcher in Rock Physics

About the role :
We are seeking a geophysicist with expertise in theoretical modelling/rock physics research to join a small team studying geophysical quantification of seafloor gas and gas hydrates. The successful candidate will have a PhD in Geophysics or related numerate discipline, and preferably some postdoctoral research experience.

The role will comprise helping to design and implement state-of-the-art laboratory experimental studies of acoustic and electrical properties of methane-bearing and methane gas hydrate-bearing seafloor sediments and rocks, implementing and developing theoretical rock physics models using experimental validation data, and integrating the results into related marine geophysical studies aimed at quantifying seafloor greenhouse gases.

This is a Fixed Term Appointment for two years offered on NERC terms and conditions.

Salary:
£28,200 to £30,600 per annum.

About you:
You will be an enthusiastic scientist with a proven track record of delivering research results whether in a team or individually, with excellent problem solving and scientific writing skills. Excellent verbal communication and team working skills are desirable, as well as project management experience.
