Postdoctoral position in mass spectrometry-based proteomicsOne postdoctoral stipend is available in the Proteomics Technology Development & Application group at The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Protein Research (CPR – www.cpr.ku.dk). The Center has been established at the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences, University of Copenhagen, to promote basic and applied discovery research on human proteins of medical relevance. The Center comprises a wide range of expertise and resources including proteomics, protein production and characterization to disease mechanisms. The proteomics section is headed by Prof. Dr. Matthias Mann, and the “Proteomics Technology Development & Application” group is lead by Prof. Dr. Michael L. Nielsen.
Description
By joining our team, you will be part of a young and dynamic team consisting of international researchers. The Nielsen group focuses on developing novel proteomics methods & technologies for studying the cellular outcomes at a ‘systems-level’, with the aim to understand cellular phenotypes and diseases. To this end, we employ cutting-edge mass spectrometry (MS)-based technologies and develop unbiased proteomics methods for identification and quantification of post-translational modifications (PTMs), such as ubiquitylation, arginine methylation and ADP-ribosylation (Danielsen et al, MCP, 2011; Sylvestersen et al, COCB, 2013; Sylvestersen et al, MCP, 2014; Jungmichel et al, Mol Cell, 2013) and other cellular signalling molecules like phophoinositides (Jungmichel et al, Cell Reports, 2014).The applicant is expected to work dedicated on improving current chromatographic and mass spectrometric methods, and developing cutting-edge proteomic methods that can be implemented in novel areas. These may be aimed at, but not exclusive to, improving current mass spectrometric methods for identification and characterization of proteomes and PTMs, or establish novel proteomics methodologies for characterization of cellular metabolites. The ideal candidate should be able to conduct independent and creative research, demonstrate scientific productivity, and show good inter-personal and communication skills. Projected start date: Summer 2015 or later.Qualifications The candidate is required to have PhD or equivalent degree in natural or medical science. Excellent scientific track record, including at least one publication as first author in a high quality, peer reviewed international journal. Prior experience in high resolution mass spectrometry would be considered a distinct advantage. Prior experience with high-performance liquid chromatography would be considered an advantage. Good communication skills, both oral and written. An analytical aptitude for devising innovative scientific or technical solutions. Demonstrate enthusiasm, motivation, flexibility and confidence. Place of employment and work The employment is at CPR (www.cpr.ku.dk), University of Copenhagen, located in central Copenhagen. The research environment at CPR is vibrant, ambitious, and international, with approx. 30 different nationalities currently represented. Benefits
Terms of salary and employment Salary, pension and terms of employment will be in accordance with the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Academics Central organization. Currently, the monthly salary is around 31,800 – 33,500 DKK (around 4,250€) plus 17.1 % in pension contribution.
