Postdoctoral Fellow : Storrs, CT, United States

The University of Connecticut (UConn) is entering a transformational period of growth supported by the $1.7B Next Generation Connecticut (http://nextgenct.uconn.edu/) and the $1B Bioscience Connecticut (http://biosciencect.uchc.edu/) investments and a bold new Academic Plan: Path to Excellence (http://issuu.com/uconnprovost/docs/academic-plan-single-hi-optimized_1). As part of these initiatives, UConn has hired more than 450 new faculty at all ranks during the past three years and UConn will soon be opening a new, state-of-the-art MRI center that is available for use by faculty.

The Department of Kinesiology is nationally ranked and offers opportunities to work alongside nationally recognized research faculty in collaboration with the expanding UConn Health Center. The doctoral program in the Department of Kinesiology was ranked the number one doctoral program by the National Academy of Kinesiology in the latest rankings (2010-2015) and number one for research productivity by the National Research Council in the most recent evaluation.

The E.C. Lee Laboratory explores genome-wide and cellular shifts in human and C. elegans stress physiology. In human exercise physiology studies, the Lee lab examines the cellular response of PBMCs and other tissues to whole body exercise, dehydration, and environmental heat stress. This is achieved by using basic techniques in molecular biology/biochemistry and flow cytometry in human exercise protocols. In the tractable invertebrate model system, C. elegans, the Lee lab aims to identify novel genetic responses to isolated and combination stress exposures. The lab uses a combination of molecular biology/biochemistry, fluorescence and confocal microscopy, behavioral assays, genetics, and high-throughput sequencing to identify conserved aspects of genome-wide stress response and adaptation.

Position Summary

The E.C. Lee lab seeks a full-time 11-month postdoctoral fellow to be responsible for designing, conducting, and analyzing research experiments in primarily, but not only, the C. elegans animal model. The individual will also oversee and coordinate the activities of other personnel and undergraduate/graduate students working on projects.
