Postdoctoral Position in Systems Biomedicine : Luxembourg, Luxembourg

Applications are invited for a postdoctoral position in Systems Biomedicine available in the Molecular Systems Physiology Group (Prof. Dr. I. Thiele) at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine at the University of Luxembourg.

The LCSB is accelerating biomedical research by closing the link between systems biology and medical research. Collaboration between biologists, medical doctors, computer scientists, physicists and mathematicians is offering new insights in complex systems like cells, organs, and organisms. These insights are essential for understanding principal mechanisms of disease pathogenesis and for developing new tools in diagnostics and therapy.

The Molecular Systems Physiology group (http://thielelab.eu), at the LCSB, focuses its research on using and developing state-of-art computational approaches to investigate the links between diet and human health.

Postdoctoral Position in Systems Biomedicine (m/f)

· Fixed-term contract: 1 year, with the option of extension up to 5 years, 40hrs per week

· Ref number: R-AGR-0403-10-B

The successful candidate will work as part an international and interdisciplinary team dedicated to understand how nutrition influences human health and disease. We use state-of-the-art computational modeling methods, with emphasis on constraint-based modeling, to address this question. The successful candidate will analyze metabolomic and clinical data in the context of the human metabolic reconstruction to propose personalized treatment strategies. The postdoctoral project is embedded a highly stimulating and interdisciplinary environment involving close interactions between medical, computational, and basic scientists.

Applicants should hold a PhD in a related field (Systems Biology, Bioinformatics, Computational biology, or Biostatistics), have proven expertise in constraint-based modeling method application and development, have a strong background and experience using transcriptomic and metabolomic data, programming languages (e.g., Matlab, R, Perl, etc.), statistics, and be highly motivated to solve biomedical problems. Excellent communication skills are essential. The position is located at the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biology at the Belval Campus of the University of Luxembourg.

The University offers highly competitive salaries based on the candidate's experience and is an equal opportunity employer.

Applications with a full CV, list of publications, short statement of research interests (one page) and names of three referees should be submitted online
