A postdoctoral fellow position is available in Dr. XiaoChing Li’s lab at the Neuroscience Center, LSU Health Sciences Center. Our laboratory studies the molecular mechanisms underlying neural circuit development, sensitive period plasticity, and vocal learning in the songbird, using it as a model for speech and language development and related neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autisms. Recently we identified miRNAs that regulate the expression of FOXP2, a gene when mutated, causing speech and language impairments in humans. Current projects include investigating the roles of miRNAs-FOXP2 gene network in gene regulation, dendritic and synaptic development, neurogenesis, and vocal learning behavior. A multidisciplinary approach ranging from molecular biology, genomics, imaging, to animal behavior will be used.
Energetic and self-motivated individuals with a recent PhD in molecular neuroscience or related fields are encouraged to apply. Broad experience and expertise in molecular cloning, Western blot, viral work, immunostaining, confocal imaging, stereotaxic surgery, and animal behavior are especially desirable. Excellent written and oral communication skills and organizational skills are required.
