The Department of Anatomy & Physiology with the College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a Fellow (Post Doc) to work in the laboratory of Dr. Yulan Xiong. This research position will be working on the molecular pathophysiology of Parkinson's disease projects using various model systems including yeast, Drosophila, mice, primary and human neuronal cultures. The general approach in this lab is to use a powerful combination of genetics, molecular biology and behavioral analysis to decipher the molecular mechanisms underlying neurodegenerative diseases in humans.

Job Description:
In vitro molecular lab work on Parkinson’s disease:
In vitro molecular and cellular study of gene function in Parkinson's disease: dissect protein function and cellular pathways
In vivo Parkinson disease modeling: develop fly, mouse and human dopamine neuronal models
Design the experiments and evaluate/interpret results independently
Basic molecular bench work: PCR, DNA cloning, protein purification, co-immunoprecipitation, Westernblotting, histochemistry etc
Primary neuronal culturing
Confocal/ fluorescence microscopy
In vivo Parkinson disease modeling: develop fly, mouse and human dopamine neuronal models
Design the experiments and evaluate/interpret results independently
Maintaining fly or mouse colony
Fly or mouse brain dissection, Immunohistochemistry, Stereology
Stereological injection of viruses into mouse brains and perform related analysis
Write manuscript, grant, etc
Attend conferences
Teach/train new staff in the lab including students, new technicians or junior postdoc in the lab
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Ph.D., M.D/Ph.D. or equivalent degree in biomedical sciences or related disciplines.
Independent research productivity in molecular biology, genetics and biochemistry
Demonstrated independent research productivity in molecular biology, genetics and biochemistry
Preferred Qualifications:
Work experience in fly, mice or cell cultures are preferred
