A postdoc position is available to join the newly established group of Dr Helen Weavers to investigate the genetics and cell biology of Tissue Resilience. This is an exciting interdisciplinary project, primarily using in vivo approaches in Drosophila (including live-imaging, genetics and quantitative proteomics) together with Population Health studies, to dissect the mechanisms underlying tissue resilience to damage/stress during both normal development and wound repair. You will work on a 3-year project funded by The Wellcome Trust and Royal Society entitled “Cytoprotective defence mechanisms during tissue maintenance and repair”. Our recent papers include Weavers et al. Cell (2016), Current Biology (2016) and Thuma et al. JCB (2018). For more information see the lab websitehttps://tissueresilience.com.
You will join a new close-knit, enthusiastic team within a thriving model organism research community. The role will involve the day-to-day running of the project, performing a range of research tasks and assisting with training and supervision of postgraduate members of the lab.
A PhD in a relevant biological or biomedical science is essential (awarded or imminent). You should also have prior knowledge of developmental biology, tissue repair or inflammation, together with experience of confocal or live imaging. Previous experience working with Drosophila is highly desirable but not essential. You will be highly organised, eager to learn new skills and to interact with a broad range of colleagues. The funds for this position are available for 3 years in the first instance.
For informal enquiries, please contact Dr Helen Weaves on helen.weavers@bristol.ac.uk or 0117 33 11419.
The closing date for applications is 23.59 on Sunday 29 July 2018.
The University is committed to creating and sustaining a fully inclusive culture. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and communities.
