The Department of Agroecology at Aarhus University in Slagelse, Denmark, is offering a Post doctoral position in interactions between plant pathogenic nematodes and soil microorgansisms commencing 01.10.2018 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful candidate will be based at the Plant Pathology and Entomology Section, Department of Agroecology, Aarhus University at Flakkebjerg, Slagelse. The position is available for a 3-year period.

The successful candidate will work on a project that aims to disclose if and by which mechanisms soil microbiomes and individual microbial strains impact the survival, infectivity and proliferation of plant pathogenic nematodes, with a special focus on root knot nematodes.

You will work experimentally with cultures of complex microbial communities and nematode cultures, characterization of microbial communities using high-throughput DNA- and RNA sequencing and bioinformatic analyses as well as microscopic assessment of nematode responses. We expect you to communicate your findings in high-impact scientific journals.

Qualifications

We are searching for a highly motivated candidate who has

* A PhD in biology, agronomy or similar (or is expected to obtain a PhD degree in the near future)

* Documented experience with high-throughput sequencing and bioinformatic analyses of microbial communities

* Documented ability to write scientific articles

* Preferably experience with plant pathogenic nematodes

* Technical skills for setting up microbial experiments

* A genuine interest in complex ecological interactions

* Collaborative skills

* Fondness of hard work and the ambition to pursue a scientific career

Work environment

You will be integrated in a group of leading plant pathologists and microbial ecologists involved in interdisciplinary research collaborations both nationally and internationally. Principal supervisor will be Mette Vestergård, Department of Agroecology (mvestergard@agro.au.dk).

Place of Work and area of Employment

The place of work is Forsøgsvej 1, DK-4200 Slagelse, and the area of employment is Aarhus University with related departments.

Application procedure

Shortlisting is used. This means that after the deadline for applications and with the assistance from the assessment committee chairman, and the appointment committee if necessary, the head of department selects the candidates to be evaluated. All applicants will be notified whether or not their applications have been sent to an expert assessment committee for evaluation. The selected applicants will be informed about the composition of the committee, and each applicant is given the opportunity to comment on the part of the assessment that concerns him/her self. Once the recruitment process is completed a final letter of rejection is sent to the deselected applicants, including the main considerations emphasized during the selection process.

Formalities and salary range

Science and Technology refers to the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Danish Universities under the Danish Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The application must be in English and include a curriculum vitae, degree certificate, a complete list of publications, a statement of future research plans and information about research activities, teaching portfolio and verified information on previous teaching experience (if any). Appointment shall be in accordance with the collective labour agreement between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. Salary depends on seniority as agreed between the Danish Ministry of Finance and the Confederation of Professional Associations.
