Postdoctoral Research Associate - Medical Physics

Job Description

Outstanding candidates interested in pursuing an academic career in medical physics are sought for a post-doctoral research fellow position in the Department of Radiation Oncology at Washington University School of Medicine. In this position you will benefit from a vast array of resources and exceptional training in a top-ranked clinical environment. The primary focus of this aim of the research is to model radiobiological effects and radiosensitization from nanomaterials. A Geant4-DNA simulation framework and data processing workflow will be developed to model the physical, chemical, and biological interactions that are involved in nanomaterial-mediated radiation sensitization.

The ideal candidate will have basic knowledge of nuclear/radiological physics, and good scientific programming and data processing skills, preferably C++/Python/MATLAB. Strong skills in Geant4 and Monte Carlo simulation are required. While the position involves primarily translational research, the successful candidate will have opportunities to gain experience in clinical medical physics. This position will provide an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to pursue a career in the field of radiation oncology physics.

Qualifications:

• PhD in Physics, Medical Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field is required.

• Knowledge of nuclear/radiological physics.

• Experience with Monte Carlo simulation tools.

• Experience with computational programming, experimental measurements, and data analysis.

• Skills in in engineering mathematics and scientific programming using MATLAB and C++ .

• Experience in academic research and manuscript preparation.

About Washington University:

The Department of Radiation Oncology at Washington University is rapidly growing and supports one of the leading cancer centers in the country. A full range of clinical services including brachytherapy, image-guided radiation therapy, MR-guided radiation therapy, high-intensity focused ultrasound, proton and stereotactic radiosurgery are provided routinely. The Division of Medical Physics, led by Professor Sasa Mutic, includes 30 faculty, a competitive CAMPEP-accredited medical physics residency program and a CAMPEP-accredited Medical Physics certificate program. Post-doctoral fellows are welcome to take courses of the certificate program with tuition assistance to establish eligibility for residency programs.
