Postdoctoral Research Position – Molecular Biophysics

MetroHealth Medical Center, Case Western Reserve University

Cleveland, Ohio

The Center for Cancer Research at MetroHealth Medical Center, Case Western Reserve University, is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher in Molecular Biophysics. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team to develop and apply advanced time-resolved fluorescence methods for studying protein-protein interactions and protein structure-function relationships in live cells.

This project will focus on elucidating the structure-function mechanisms of receptor tyrosine kinases and their role in cancer development, with collaboration across cell biology, biochemistry, and cancer biology disciplines.

Required Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics or a closely related field.

Hands-on experience in constructing custom fluorescence microscopy systems (e.g., FRET, FLIM, FCS, and anisotropy).

Solid understanding of time-resolved fluorescence techniques.

Experience with live cell culture and molecular biology is a plus.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities:

Collaborate with vendors to develop novel time-resolved fluorescence techniques, such as time-resolved fluorescence anisotropy and multi-color FCS.

Operate in-house time-resolved fluorescence microscopes to conduct live-cell imaging experiments.

Perform sample preparation using basic cell biology techniques (training provided).

Conduct biochemical analyses such as immunoblotting (training provided).

Design and optimize protocols for new biophysical assays to address complex cancer biology questions.– Example project: Science, 2023

Writing and submitting NIH training grants, including F32, K99/R00, or K22 mechanisms.
