Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Grade 7: £29,249 – £35,938 with a discretionary range to £39,257p.a.

Applications are invited for a bright and highly motivated computational or statistical biologist to work in the research group of Dr. Cecilia Lindgren and be partly supervised by Dr. Andrew Morris at the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics at University of Oxford. Our group’s interests lie in understanding the underlying genetic causes and their functional effects on complex traits and diseases, particularly metabolic traits (such as insulin resistance, obesity and fat distribution). To do this we combine whole genome information from genetic variants (genotyped, imputed and sequenced) with data from the transcriptome (expression arrays, RNA sequencing), methylation information and various annotations.

You will be part of a group where current members have a range of genetic, statistical, computational and biological backgrounds. You will undertake research into the identification of genes responsible for susceptibility to multifactorial diseases, which will enable you to further your skill set and apply state-of-the art methodology within the field of statistical genetics and genomics.

You will have a postgraduate degree (preferably PhD) in statistical genetics, quantitative genetics, computer science or computational biology. You will also have proven programming ability (Perl, Java and/or C++) and experience with statistical programs such as R/SPlus, PLINK, SAS, or SPSS, including script writing as well as excellent communication skills.

The post is available until 31st August 2014 in the first instance and funded by the Wellcome Trust.
