瑞典卡罗林斯卡医学院招聘血管生物学博士后
The Department of Medical Biochemistry and Biophysics conducts multidisciplinary research in Biomedicine and education within biochemistry and biophysics. We are now looking for a highly motivated person with a background in molecular biology/cell biology/bio-technology or similar, to join the Nyqvist lab within the Division of Vascular Biology. http://ki.se/ki/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=30610&a=156030&l=en
You will be part of a very interactive environment consisting of six other research groups (Christer Betsholtz, Ulf Eriksson, Kristian Pietras, Jonas Fuxe, Johan Björkegren and Lars Jakobsson) with a total of approximately 50 employees.
Duties
The vascular system plays a vital role in health and in numerous diseases. Our aim is to identify and characterize signaling pathways that play a critical role for vascular development and function in health and disease. We study blood vessel formation (angiogenesis) and function during development and in pathophysiological conditions such as tumor angiogenesis and retinopathy.
The project focuses on elucidating the role of canonical Wnt/β−catenin signaling pathway in vascular growth and function. The work will include the use of genetically modified mouse models with inducible gain- and loss-of-function mutations to analyze endothelial cell physiology during vascular development and tumor angiogenesis. Fluorescent reporter models in combination with confocal imaging, both in vivo and ex vivo, also enables live cell imaging.
The successful candidate is expected to develop leading research in the area of vascular biology using both in vivo and in vitro models. Independence and strong motivation are expected throughout the project. Candidates will be encouraged to serve as mentors for exam students and co-mentors for Ph.D. students, thus building their experience for future leadership.
Qualifications
To qualify, the applicant must hold a doctor’s degree or a foreign qualification deemed equivalent to a doctorate in the field of molecular biology, cell biology, biotechnology or similar.
Previous experience in vascular biology, in vivo mouse experimentation, tissue culture, molecular biology techniques, microarray and confocal microscopy is considered to be an advantage. Lab experience from outside of Sweden is considered a strong merit.
The candidate should be self-motivated and driven, have good communication skills and ability to interact effectively and work productively in a team. Fluency in English is a requirement.
Applicants who have completed their degree no more than three years before the last date for applications should be given priority. Candidates who have completed their degree earlier than this should receive equal priority if special grounds exist. Postgraduates who have yet to graduate may apply if their public defense is scheduled to take place within three months after the application deadline, in which case verification from the Dissertation Committee or equivalent body must be submitted with the application.
The position is available for 2 years with possible extension for 1-2 years, from February, 2013.
Karolinska Institutet awards scholarships to pursue postdoctoral studies. This educational scholarship, which is paid for a maximum of two years, is tax-exempt. The scholarship amount is approved for up to six months at a time and is paid monthly.
The application should submitted to daniel.nyqvist@ki.se and contain the following documents in English:
1) A personal letter, complete CV including date of dissertation, the title of the thesis, academic title, previous academic positions and present position.
2) A complete list of publications
3) Brief summary of present and previous work (maximum two pages)
4.Verification for accreditation of illness, military service, work for trade unions and student organizations, parental leave or other similar circumstances
5.Verification from the Dissertation Committee or equivalent (only if the defense is scheduled within three months after the application deadline)
Karolinska Institutet is one of the world´s leading medical universities. Its mission is to contribute to the improvement of human health through research and education. Karolinska Institutet accounts for over 40 per cent of the medical academic research conducted in Sweden and offers the country´s broadest range of education in medicine and health sciences. Since 1901 the Nobel Assembly at Karolinska Institutet has selected the Nobel laureates in Physiology or Medicine.
