The Tissue Engineering and Biomaterials Lab of Professor Marvin J Slepian, MD is currently accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Research Associate I position that will be involved in protein and polymer work. An important component of this position will be to work as part of a team in the daily operation of the laboratory. The successful candidate will plan, coordinate, and participate in basic science, clinical and translational research projects. This includes evaluating research data, revising, improving and monitoring techniques, and developing innovative methods and approaches to solve scientific problems while meeting goals and objectives in accordance with priorities, time, funding and other limitations. The ideal candidate will have experience with nanofabrication, lithography, self-assembly and polymer modification of nanotextured surfaces to elucidate cellular response. Your initial duties shall consist of a) performing experiments at a postdoctoral level under the direction of supervisor, b) performing in vitro system studies using several assaying techniques developed in the laboratory and collaborating research group laboratories, and c) initiating and directing projects and guiding graduate students in various research projects. Duties and Responsibilities

Administer and oversee the research projects. * Direct the preparation and execution of experiments to meet the needs of the project. * Assist in identifying funding opportunities. * Maintain and daily upkeep of an electronic notebook with complete details of experiments with analysis of results; oversight of all lab members that complete this on a daily basis. * Contribute to and participate in the authorship of research publications and presentations at professional conferences. * Compile data and generate computerized statistics for analytical purposes using software packages; make preliminary analyses and assist researchers in interpreting the data. * Responsible for the maintenance of various pieces of laboratory equipment and with general laboratory organization. * Execute research projects involving animal and human tissue. * Participate in weekly research team meetings, research presentations, seminars and journal clubs. * Write and submit all hazardous and non-hazardous agents to the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) as well as all animal protocols to the Animal Care Committee (IACUC) as requested by the Director. * Supervise the handling of radioisotopes, chemically hazardous materials, and biohazardous material in procedures specific to meet institution safety guidelines. * Oversee maintenance of hazardous chemical inventory. * Ensure all personnel receive all institutionally-mandated training and laboratory safety training. * Responsible for shipping of biohazard and infections materials per UA regulations. * Ensure that laboratory is prepared for isotope inspections and safety accreditation. * Perform other functions designated by the PI. PhD degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; or any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications

Knowledge of the principles and techniques of the subject discipline. * Knowledge of modern research methods, data collection and analyses. * Skill in analyzing and evaluating data; demonstrated ability for technical accuracy. * Experience and certifications in human subject research (CITI, HIPAA). * Experience with relevant UA systems and procedures for purchasing. * Proven experience in problem solving; effective verbal and written communication in English. * Strong time management, organizational and interpersonal skills. * Proven experience applying basic accounting and budgeting knowledge. * Prior experience with clinical and translational research. * Prior biomedical research experience. * Experience with nanofabrication, lithography, self-assembly and polymer modification of nanotextured surfaces to elucidate cellular response.
