The postdoctoral researcher that will be chosen to work in the University of Thessaly will deal with the pharmacological examination and evaluation of controlled released drug delivery systems against human cancer cell lines and with the development of experimental protocols using animal cancer models (human tumor xenografted mice). The position will be funded by the project "ARISTEIA" entitled "SYNTHESIS OF MULTIFUNCTIONAL AMPHIPHILIC HYBRID POLYPEPTIDES THAT FORM SMART DRUG AND GENE DELIVERY NANOCONSTRUCTS AGAINST PANCREATIC CANCER" which has been co-financed by the European Union and Greek national funds through the Operational Program "Education and Lifelong Learning" of the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF)
Description
The postdoctoral researcher that will be chosen to work in the University of Thessaly will deal with the pharmacological examination and evaluation of controlled released drug delivery systems against human cancer cell lines (work packages 6 & 7) and with the development of experimental protocols using animal cancer models (human tumor xenografted mice). The researcher should be able to design and implement protocols so as to examine and feature the activity of selected anticancer agents (known and experimental) and to evaluate the activity of polymeric controlled released drug delivery systems against human cancer cell lines, study their effect on cancer cells (i.e. study the mechanism of action and the signal transduction pathway induced upon treatment, analysis of the cancer cells cell cycle and assessment of cell death pathway that is stimulated). Following, the researcher will need to carry out experimental protocols to study the same aspects of controlled release drug delivery systems using animal models of human cancer. The postdoctoral position will be placed in the University of Thessaly, faculty of Medicine. On these grounds candidates will need to acquire excellent knowledge of cell culturing and cell biology techniques (cell cytotoxicity assays, immunoblotting, flow cytometry, immunohistochemistry). The researcher will need to possess great expertise on handling and manipulating small animal models as well as be acquainted with the procedure of evaluating anticancer properties and mechanism of action of experimental compounds of unknown background in animal models of human cancer.
