Job Description
The Henry M. Jackson Foundation (HJF) is seeking a Senior Computational Biologist, available immediately, to support the Gynecologic Cancer Center of Excellence (GYN-COE), located at the Women’s Health Integrated Research Center (WHIRC) in Fairfax, Virginia.
This individual will team with translational and physicians/scientists in pursuit of innovative computational and statistical approaches for integrative analysis of systems level data derived from functional genomics investigations to elucidate molecular signatures in gynecologic cancers in terms of DNA alterations, RNA profiles, proteomic signatures, and functional responses. The candidate will lead the computational biology efforts in the GYN-COE and interface with a well-established and highly productive cancer research team focused on gynecologic malignancies representing an exceptional collaborative environment. The Senior Computational Biologist will be responsible for devising new computational methodologies for interrogating cancer genomic data, including that generated from second and third generation sequencing from whole-genome, exome, RNA-seq and ChIP-seq, as well as mass spectrometry-based proteomics data. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for developing and utilizing customized data analysis toolkits and procedures for integration of instrument and clinical information, along with development of in-house data processing and cluster analysis computing toolkits, sample size and power analysis, survival rate analysis, and data visualization.
An outstanding track record of publication in cancer research, genomics, and computational biology is required for this position. This position requires a thorough knowledge of the principles and theories of molecular biology, excellent analytical, organizational, communication and programming skills, a documented outstanding track record of publication in peer-reviewed cancer research, genomics, and computational biology is required for this position. This position requires a Ph.D. in Physical or Biological Sciences, Computer Science or Mathematics and 5-7 years of experience.
