英国伦敦玛丽女王大学招聘博士后
Centre for Immunology and Infectious Disease
(Immune Systems Research Theme)
Post-doctoral Research Assistant
Primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an autoimmune clotting disorder of the blood. ITP commonly results in mild localised bleeding, but dangerous bleeding episodes can occur, especially in the elderly. In most ITP patients (70%), disease-causing auto-antibodies can be identified. However, a significant minority of patients lack these antibodies, suggesting alternative disease mechanisms. This project will investigate these mechanisms, specifically focusing on the destruction of the clotting machinery by certain types of white blood cell; primarily T cells and NK cells.
The aim of this study will be to provide a better understanding of ITP, especially with regard to determining which patients should be treated by which clinical strategies. Moreover, the findings made for ITP are potentially applicable to other organ-specific human autoimmune diseases.
This post is funded by Barts and The London Charity. The candidate will be based at the Blizard Institute, Barts and The London Medical School, and will have access to the 1200+ recruited ITP patients at the Royal London Hospital, the largest group of ITP patients worldwide. The candidate will be expected to work closely with collaborative partners such as Barts Health (at The Royal London Hospital) and GSK (Stevenage).
The candidate should have a relevant PhD or equivalent and proven post-doctoral experience, preferably in human immunology. Previous work with patient samples in a translational setting would also be advantageous. The candidate should have experience of human T cell biology, and in cellular immunological techniques such as sample acquisition and preparation, cell culture, ELISA, flow cytometry and microscopy. The candidate will also be expected to present data and undertake close collaborative work with multiple partners.
The post is full time for 3 years, starting on 1st March 2013 or as soon as possible thereafter. Salary will be in the range £33,944 – £39,936 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.
Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
