ABOUT CIMR

Chinese Institutes for Medical Research (CIMR) is a newly founded institution dedicated to fundamental and translational medical research. The CIMR is located at the main campus of the Capital Medical University, Beijing, China and committed to building a scientist-centered governance framework and fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment. Laboratory Introduction

The Deng Laboratory at CIMR has open positions for postdoctoral fellows and research assistants. The laboratory primarily utilizes deep immunophenotyping, single-cell and spatial multi-omics platforms, cell & molecular biology techniques, as well as genetic animal models to investigate the role of B cell heterogeneity in tumor development, metastasis and immunotherapy response. The goal is to gain a deeper understanding of the pathological mechanism of B cells in tumorigenesis and autoimmune diseases, and to further explore potential therapeutic strategies for reprogramming B cell fate. Dr. Deng graduated from the School of Life Sciences of Soochow University and received his doctorate degree from Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. Dr. Deng has worked as postdoctoral researcher at internationally renowned research institutions, such as Chinese National Human Genome Center at Shanghai, Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dr. Deng has been a CIMR faculty member since March 2025.

Major Research Projects

Characterizing B lymphocytes and tertiary lymphoid structures (TLSs) in the tumor microenvironment, gaining insights into the pathological mechanisms of molecular biological events that regulates B cell fate in tumorigenesis and autoimmune diseases, and providing potential therapeutic strategies.

a. Molecular mechanisms regulating the germinal center-dependent / independent responses of tumor-infiltrating B cells.

b. Mechanisms of B cell maturation and selection in tertiary lymphoid structures.

c. Identification of molecular targets that reprogram B cell fate.

Major Academic Achievements

a. Uncovered mutated genes of SWI/SNF chromatin remodeling complex and its molecular mechanisms regulating on malignant characteristics and fate determination of tumor cells (Cancer Cell 2024, PMID: 38458188 & PMID: 38458187; Nature Genetics 2012, PMID: 22922871).

b. Identified cellular / molecular features that associated with efficacy and toxicity of CD19 CAR-T cell therapy in relapsed or refractory large B-cell lymphoma (Cell Reports Medicine 2023, PMID: 37586321; Cancer Cell 2023, PMID: 37738975; Blood Advances 2023, PMID: 37389847; Nature Medicine 2020, PMID: 33020644).
